A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer applied to the exterior surfaces of vehicles. It chemically bonds with the factory paint, creating a protective layer. This coating provides benefits such as enhanced durability, protection against UV rays, oxidation, bird droppings, and other environmental contaminants. It also creates a hydrophobic surface, making it easier to clean and maintain the vehicle's appearance. Ceramic coatings are known for their long-lasting effects compared to traditional wax or sealant products.
There are many different brands of ceramic coatings. I found Gyeon ceramic coatings to be 1 of the best. Their "Entry" level coating Can Coat Pro, is a spray on coating that gives similar characteristics as the other coatings however it lacks in durability. You would probably be looking at about 6-8 months of protection, however-like the other coatings, it can be maintained to increase the longevity of the coating.
This coating is also great for people that are unsure about ceramic coating or want to cut back on cost.

There are many different combinations for ceramic coatings and especially with Gyeon. Generally, a traditional coating package is your base layer with a top layer. The top layer is applied shorty after the base layer coating to give it a much more slick and glossy surface. The base layer by its self will still add protection, water beading and gloss, however, the top coat will significantly increases that and it is highly recommended.
This combination has an effective durability of 1-2+ years. If properly maintained it can last even longer.
Multi-layered Coatings are the highest form of coating protections. Generally consisting of 2-3 base layers plus your top coat layer giving you up to 4 protective layers of ceramic coating on your vehicle.
You will have all the characteristics of the other coatings but this process will significantly increase durability. You are looking at about 3-5+ years of effective durability.
It is crucial to begin by thoroughly washing the vehicle to remove dirt, dust, and debris using a PH-Neutral soap (PH-Neutral Soap has no additional additive like wax embedded into it - just straight soap).
Decontaminate the paint surface by using a clay bar and iron remover to get rid of any embedded contaminants.
After the wash process the next and most important step is paint correction. A vast majority of the clarity and shine of the vehicle comes from this step. It is strongly suggested to do a paint corrections before ANY ceramic coating process. The reason is that when you put on a ceramic coating you are essentially bonding it to the paint and sealing everything below it IE: the quality/condition of the paint. Now if your vehicle is coated you can still remove the coating and tend to any defects however it is a more costly and time consuming process. So you want to correct the paint quality, remove defects then seal it with a ceramic coating.
Now every vehicles paint will require a slightly different process. For starters you have hard paint and you have soft paint. Hard paint types mean it will take longer to remove defects and soft paint types means it will be quicker to remove any paint defects. Knowing a vehicles paint type before hand just comes down to experience on past vehicles. Depending on what the vehicles requires and what the client is looking to pay will determine how much defect removal will be done. Paint correction can become very expensive so it is important to understand this step moving forward.
After the paint correction process, the prep stage for the ceramic coating begins. All oils, residue and dust from the polish are removed to give the coating a better bond to the paint. Any other parts of the vehicles have been tended too, like the rims and windows. The vehicle is now in a perfectly clean state and ready to receive ceramic coating.
Depending on what ceramic coating combination you chose will determine how many layers are applied to the vehicle. This would also be the time the windows and rims would be coated. The coating is applied to about 1/3rd of a panel at a time and done in sections. It is a slow and tedious process. Once the first layer is applied, the next layers are applied the same way. Number of layers is determined but what the client wants. After the base coating layers are applied and if applicable the top coat is then applied after waiting 4 hours.
The vehicle is now ceramic coated.
It takes about 24-48 hours for the vehicle to cure, after which it may be driven. Allow up to 7 days before getting the vehicle wet or applying any chemical to the paint.
Don't do it, I know you want to.
In all seriousness i completely understand why people go to carwashes, it's easy, convenient and affordable. However, if you just invested in a ceramic coating I would definitely recommend not going through a car wash. If you have to go to a carwash for whatever reason it's best to do touchless carwash and DO NOT choose the wax option. You just want soap, no wax.
The reason is the bristles cause scratching which could require removing the ceramic coating and polishing the vehicle again. The soaps and waxes used do not have ceramic coated vehicles in mind which can be harmful to the coating.
It happens, you will probably get these handful of things on your ceramic coated vehicle. It's best to remove these as soon as you can. The best way is to hand wash the vehicle yourself or bring it to a professional detailer. You might be asking why would I need to wash the whole vehicle if its just 1 spot. It's best practice to do a proper full wash method on the vehicle. This reduces the chances of scratching or damaging the surface of the vehicle.
These items can be very acidic and if not tended to they can burn through the ceramic coating and the paint causing permanent damage. The Ceramic Coating helps these items come off far easier!
Taking your vehicle to a professional detailer regularly ensures that your vehicle is kept in its best possible condition for years to come. Regular professional detailing can contribute to maintaining your vehicle's aesthetic appeal and overall condition. This can be beneficial when it comes time to sell or trade in your vehicle, as a well-maintained appearance often translates to a higher resale value.
